Shalom Lodge No 7541 hosted a unique ‘double’ 60th celebration for Harvey Beaver and Alan Becker and on this very special occasion the lodge was honoured by the presence of Phillip Gunning, Assistant Provincial Grand Master.
The lodge was opened by the WM, Malcolm Robinson and after lodge business Phillip demanded admission and entered the Scarbrough Temple. Once Phillip was present the celebration commenced with family members presenting the Three Degree Working Tools to both. The First Degree Tools were presented by son Robert Beaver, Second Degree Tools by son Johnny Becker and the Third Degree Tools by son in law, Geoff Bloch.
Malcolm then offered the gavel to Phillip, who accepted and took the Chair of King Solomon. Phillip then commenced a most excellent 60th celebration ceremony where he had researched their lives, Masonic and non-Masonic. Harvey and Alan had met at school whilst aged 10 and have been best friends ever since.
Harvey was initiated into Menorah Lodge in 1954, after being proposed by his father Percy and seconded by his brother Walter. He joined Shalom Lodge as its first ever Joining Member in 1957 and became WM in 1964. He is also been a Joining Member of Mount Sinai Lodge in Manchester. In 1977 he received preferment into Provincial Grand Lodge with the rank of PPrJGD and in 1991promoted to PPrGSuptWks.
Alan was also initiated into Menorah Lodge in Liverpool in 1954 and became one of six Joining Members of Shalom Lodge in November 1957, becoming WM in 1966. He is also a Joining Member of Mount Sinai Lodge. He received preferment into Provincial Grand Lodge with the rank PPrAGDC in 1980 and in 1991 promotion to PPrGSuptWks.
After the ceremony, the 60 Year celebration certificates from the Provincial Grand Master, Peter Hosker, were read out by Bryan Henshaw, Southport Group Chairman. WM, Malcolm then presented two cheques for charity to Phillip: £300 to Friends of Tithebarn and £300 to Cancer research.
A wonderful meal of Chopped Liver, Vegetable Soup, BBQ Chicken with Roast Potatoes and Vegetables, followed by Fruit and coffee was enjoyed by all. Several speeches of congratulations followed, with Alan responding on behalf of Harvey and himself.
