The Southport YMCA Gymnastics’ Club has for some time wanted to obtain an honours board to recognise the achievements of its members but, due to costs, this item always seemed to be getting put on hold. One of its members, Daniel Purvis, is now ranked number one in the world. He has had many International Championship successes even though just twenty-three years old. Recently he won a Bronze Medal for the team event from the 2012 London Olympics. His success at the Olympics reignited the club’s desire to possess an honours board. This wish was made known to W Bro Les Moore, whose five grandchildren also attend the Gym. Les is currently a Grant Executive for the West Lancashire Freemasons Charity. So an application to fund the Honours Board, on the Gym’s behalf, was subsequently submitted to WLFC. This was successful and wholeheartedly supported.
The honours board was presented to the Gym by W Bro Phillip Gunning, APrGM for the Province of West Lancashire. Also in attendance were W Bro Brian Henshaw, Southport Group Chairman and W Bro Leslie Moore, WLFC Grant Executive.
The board now takes pride of place at the Southport YMCA Gym and Daniel himself made sure he could take a break from his busy schedule to come along and support the presentation whilst proudly displaying the actual medal he won at the recent Olympics.
