Our Group Chairman Retires

Over one hundred Brethren and Companions gathered in the Scarbrough Dining Room to honour W Bro Bryan Henshaw on his retirement as Chairman of the Group after five very successful years in the chair, preceded by four years as Group Vice Chairman.

An excellent meal was served consisting of Tomato and Roast Red Pepper Soup followed by Gammon Steak, Vegetables and Potatoes, rounded off with a delicious Cheeseboard

BSH2After the meal, Director of Ceremonies for the evening, W Bro Maurice Evans, introduced the APrGM, Philip Gunning, who proposed a toast to the Celebrant. Philip stated that Bryan’s leadership and management skills had been a great example for others to emulate. In reply, Bryan said that it had been a privilege and honour to chair the group and thanked everyone for their marvelous support for the last five years.

W Bro Colin Jenkins, who succeeds Bryan as Chairman, read apologies from ‘Dicky Ticker’ aka PAPrGM, W Bro John Moore, who regrettably could not attend as he was in hospital awaiting a major operation.

Colin then presented a cheque to Bryan, on behalf of the Group, for £900 together with a card signed by all members present. A bouquet of flowers was also presented for his wife Gwen, as a mark of appreciation for her support to him and the Group over his tenure. Colin concluded his very warm address by suggesting that Bryan should “not stay away too long!” ~ this was received with tumultuous acclamation.

In reply, Bryan requested those present should take back his heartfelt thanks to all Chapters and Lodges for their support over last five years. He then presented bouquets to Philip Gunning for his wife, Anne; to the new Group Vice-Chairman, W Bro Philip Stock, for his wife, Sharon, thanking Phil for all his hard work organising a successful evening and also Bro Richard Alty for his work in providing the marvelous decor for the event. Finally, he thanked Maurice Evans for his work as Director of Ceremonies for the evening.

Bryan Henshaw’s leadership will be sadly missed but we can be assured that the Southport Group is in very safe and capable hands under the new leadership of Colin Jenkins and Philip Stock.
