The installation meeting of Fermor Chapter No 1313 took place at Southport Masonic Hall on Halloween. However, the companions were in for a nice surprise as they witnessed John Husdell installed into the first principals chair by his predecessor Brian Griffiths, who had continued in the role for the chapter over the past three years.
The chapter was honoured by the presence of newly promoted Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Samuel Robinson, who was supported on this occasion by Alan Jones Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer, Robert Thornton-Davidson Provincial Grand Steward, Colin Jenkins Southport Group Chairman, Christopher Hamilton and Alan Sainter.
After the opening of the chapter Brian Griffiths and the principals rose and offered a warm welcome to Sam Robinson and the chapter’s distinguished guests and hoped that everyone would have a very enjoyable evening. Sam said that he was looking forward to a very enjoyable ceremony as he had never visited this chapter before.
The three principals elect were then presented to each of the principals in turn by the chapters ADC Alan Jervis to mark the start of the installation proceedings with John Husdell being installed as first principal, George Wilson as second principal and Graham Bridge as third principal. Readings at the various times during the ceremony were given by Ian Bridge. The robe addresses were then given to the three principals with Brian Griffiths to the first principal and John Husdell to both the second and third principals.
John’s first business as first principal was to appoint and invest his officers of the chapter for the ensuing year which he did with his own confident style.
At the conclusion of the installation ceremony, Sam rose to convey congratulations and best wishes to all who had taken part on behalf of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, mentioning that he spoke to him every day as he had a huge photo of him in his house that he used to run questions past. Sam added that the evening had been a treat and very enjoyable and different in a good way; continuing he wished the three principals a very enjoyable year with at least one candidate scheduled to be exalted at the next meeting. Sam then also thanked Brian for a great ceremony saying that he understood that this must also be a great treat for him having served the chapter well for the past three years.
John thanked Sam for those kind words and then presented two cheques to him; the first for £250 to the Southport Hall Foundation and the second to the Masonic Grand Charities again for £250.
