Members and visitors to Victoria Lodge No 2360 bore witness to an excellent ceremony, that saw Les Gilston installed into the chair of King Solomon for the forthcoming year.
The outgoing WM, Alan Phythian, was able to finish off his memorable stint in the chair, overseeing a well-attended gathering of over 46 members and guests. For the installation the lodge was honoured by the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Kevin Poynton as their principal guest.
Les was presented by both Brian Skinner and Roy Crawford and after what was agreed was a faultless ceremony, three junior brethren of the lodge, Mark Cunningham, David Weatherby and Brian McCarthy gave an explanation of the third, second and first degree working tools respectively.
This was followed by addresses from Jackson Headings to the master, Terry Tasker to the wardens and from Kevin Poynton to the brethren of the lodge.
Once Les had appointed his officers, Kevin brought congratulations on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master. Following this Les presented cheques on behalf of the lodge to Kevin of £500 to the Southport Hall Foundation, £250 to West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £600 to Southport Offshore Rescue Trust, £600 to North West Air Ambulance, £600 to Queenscourt Hospice and finally £1,200 to The Freemasons’ Grand Charity (MCF); a grand total of £3,750 showing the generosity of the lodge and giving a fine example of one of the cornerstones of Freemasonry, namely charity.
After a lively and enjoyable festive board the brethren retired having been part of a hugely entertaining evening.
